Johnston Square Project
The Hammond at Greenmount Park and Johnston Square Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library Tour

Join LAI Baltimore for a tour of The Hammond at Greenmount Park, nearing completion this fall and located in the Johnston Square neighborhood of Baltimore. In addition to a new 10,000 SF branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, the building will include 109 workforce housing units of one, two, and three bedrooms. The building tour will include presentations by the development team lead by Jake Stern of Somerset Development, Michael Bainum of ReBuild Metro, and Rachel Scheuerman, Enoch Pratt Free Library Chief of Staff.

The team will describe the overall history of the neighborhood, engagement with the development team, how this project fits within the neighborhood’s overall vision, and how EPFL became part of the building. This will still be an active construction site. Please bring hard hats if you have them or the contractor will have some available. 

Light refreshments will be served.
On street parking is available on Chase Street, Brentwood, and Biddle.

Michael BainumReBuild MetroMichael Bainum leads ReBUILD’s real estate development, including project planning, predevelopment, construction, and real estate partnerships. Michael has over 20 years of experience in real estate development and redeveloping scattered-site vacant properties in Baltimore. Prior to joining ReBUILD, Michael worked for Enterprise Homes overseeing projects in the Baltimore area with a combined total development cost of roughly $135MM, resulting in over 1,000 affordable housing units. He also served as Director of Project 5000 Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), where he oversaw an innovative and nationally recognized initiative to clear title to more than 5,000 vacant and abandoned properties. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Jurist Doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law.

 


Rachel ScheuermanEnoch Pratt Free Library

Rachel Scheuerman is the Chief of Staff at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, the city library of Baltimore and the State Library Resource Center of Maryland. A Pratt employee for nearly 25 years, she serves as a key member of the Executive Administrative Team, helping to drive strategy, coordinate initiatives, and ensure seamless operations across the 22-branch system. Known as a trusted point of connection and problem-solver, Rachel helps keep projects, people, and priorities aligned, from major capital initiatives to day-to-day organizational needs.

Rachel has facilitated projects ranging from the launch of Pratt Anywhere at Rita Church to internal office build outs and the upcoming House of Melo exhibit celebrating the life and accomplishments of Hall of Fame basketball player Carmelo Anthony, debuting October 25, 2025. She currently represent’s Pratt’s interests related to the Johnston Square buildout of Pratt’s first new library branch in more than 15 years, has overseen numerous renovation projects across the system, and will soon lead the Library’s Strategic IT Plan—all while continuing to be the go-to resource for colleagues system wide.

Since joining Pratt in 2001, Rachel has served in a wide range of roles, including Executive Operations Coordinator, Special Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer, Information Access Division Special Assistant, and Circulation Manager. Her dedication and impact have been recognized with the Library’s highest honor, the Baker Award (2014), as well as the Behind the Scenes Employee Award (2011).

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Rachel has called the Baltimore area home for more than 25 years. She takes great pride in supporting the Library’s mission by bringing complex projects to life and creating the conditions for staff, partners, and patrons to thrive.

Jake SternSomerset Development Company

Jake Stern serves as Director of Development for Somerset’s Maryland portfolio, overseeing the development and construction management of all major projects in Baltimore. He has overseen the development of over 650 affordable and market rate housing units as well as retail spaces. Jake takes the lead in identification of new opportunities in Maryland. He has experience in both property management and compliance from prior work in affordable housing. He joined Somerset in 2012.

Jake has a Bachelor of Science from Tufts University where he studied sustainable urban development and earned degrees in both Environmental Studies and Spanish. He worked with the Tufts University Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning Program, studying best practices in green building, and earning a LEED Green Associate credential.
