MARGARET McFARLAND RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR AWARD

The Baltimore Chapter of Lambda Alpha (LAI), the honorary International Land Economics Society, has announced their 2018 Richard T. Ely Distinguished Educator Award.

This year’s distinguished recipient is Margaret McFarland, JD; Clinical Professor, Graduate Programs in Real Estate Development and Director, Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development, University of Maryland, College Park.

Letters of support for her nomination has come from prominent regional real estate developers and scholars:

The announcement was made by Melvin Freeman, President, Baltimore Chapter of LAI – Lambda Alpha International, and James D. Fawcett, PhD, FLAI, LAI International Awards Chair.

McFarland was nominated by the Baltimore Chapter of LAI and cited for her achievements in education and land economics in Maryland, the region and beyond, including her visionary leadership of the University of Maryland’s Colvin Institute for Real Estate Development. McFarland also serves as Editor-in-Chief, Real Estate Review.

Margaret McFarland has notable achievements as an educator and practitioner in the field of land economics, housing and the related real estate industry, in both the public and private sectors, for more than four decades. McFarland is an accomplished author of both academic and professional publications; regulations published and adopted by the District of Columbia; corporate governance and administrative documents, and litigation briefs and documents.

The Ely Distinguished Educator Award will be presented during the LAI Land Economics Weekend in Baltimore, April 26-28, 2018.

 

 

 

 

Mr. Freeman commented: “We at the Baltimore Chapter of LAI are thrilled that fellow Marylander Margaret McFarland is receiving this well-deserved honor for her accomplishments as an educator and practitioner in land economics and real estate, including her visionary leadership of the Colvin Institute for Real Estate Development at the University of Maryland, College Park.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Regarding the Ely Award, Professor Fawcett elaborated: “Lambda Alpha was founded at Northwestern University almost 90 years ago by students of one of the preeminent leaders in land economics, Professor Richard T. Ely with the purpose of recognizing individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field of land economics.  Consistent with its background in academia, the Ely Award recognizes distinguished educators in the field.  Without a doubt, Professor Ely would be delighted that the award in his name is this year presented to Professor McFarland.”
