June 15, 2016: A Look at the Economy: Strengths, Weakness, and the Outlook for Policy, A National and Regional Economic Outlook Presentation by R. Andrew Bauer, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond
A luncheon presentation by R. Andrew Bauer, senior regional economist and deputy regional executive at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond – Baltimore Branch. The presentation looked at the US and regional economy, noting changes in important trends that have resulted in more moderate growth in recent years. The prospect for growth in 2016 and 2017 will be evaluated, including a focus on whether the current expansion is likely to end. The recent performance of the Baltimore economy and what to expect in the near term will be presented as well as important risks to the outlook. Finally, the presentation will conclude with a brief discussion of monetary policy.
Dr. Bauer is a senior regional economist and deputy regional executive at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He is responsible for monitoring and analyzing macroeconomic and regional economic conditions, developing tools and methods to identify changes in the economic outlook, and track developments. Dr. Bauer regularly speaks on national and regional economic conditions, Federal Reserve policy, and banking conditions to academic groups, business associations, and civic organizations. He is also an instructor at the Maryland Banking Association’s Banking School, a former affiliate assistant professor at Loyola University and a graduate of the GBC Leadership program in 2015. Prior to joining the Richmond Fed in 2006, Dr. Bauer worked in the macroeconomic policy group in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. At the Atlanta Fed, he provided support for monetary policy and conducted research. Dr. Bauer co-authored several articles on macroeconomic forecasting, consumer inflation measures, and evaluating shocks to the U.S. economy over the business cycle. Dr. Bauer received a Ph.D. in economics from Emory University and a B.A. from American University.
